Putting An End To Citizens United

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (more commonly referred to as just “Citizens United”) was a supreme court case in 2010. In a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court significantly loosened the rules of campaign finance and effectively gave corporations the same first amendment rights to free speech as individuals when it comes to politics. The effect of the Citizens United decision is that corporations can now legally spend virtually unlimited amounts of money to support a bill or candidate that matches up with their interests. The decision was seen as a “right wing” decision, championed by Republicans and special interest groups.

This controversial decision has been a topic of hot debate for almost a decade, but the recent revelations about Russian interference in the United States’ 2016 elections has breathed new life into the arguments against Citizens United.

The ability for a foreign company or a foreign government to easily spend money on political advertising as investigations into the 2016 election have revealed is a serious red flag. It demonstrates how defenseless US elections have become as a result of decisions like Citizens United and the loopholes they’ve created for political spending. As of early 2017 the Federal Election Commission (FEC) had as many as 15 illegal foreign campaign spending cases pending.

Many ideas have been proposed such as the “DISCLOSE Act”, the “By the People” reform package, and the “Get Foreign Money Out of U.S. Elections Act”, but Congress has not taken action. Republicans are now faced with the decision of accepting the status quo to hold on to their big ticket donors, or taking steps to restore the integrity of the American electoral process.

Campaign finance reform is the term that describes changing the rules of how much money can be spent on political speech by individuals and corporations. Organizations like End Citizens United are stepping in to answer the call that US politicians are sidestepping.

Through their website, http://endcitizensunited.org, people can join the “ECU Action Network” for opportunities like town hall meetings, petitions, and calls to action for elected officials. George Soros: A Strong Supporter of Civil Action in Ferguson, Missouri

George Soros is a powerful political supporter. He provides millions of dollars to advance the cause of liberalism. His ideas, views and opinions are based on the concept of an “open society”. An open society is a governmental system that allows people to believe as they choose, to distribute information as they please and it has a flexible system of government that will not allow one group to dominate everything. Know more about George Soros on CNBC.

The United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom are some countries that endorse an open society structure. America is probably one of the most open societies in the world in terms of personal freedoms and civil liberties. Soros enjoys life under an open system of government. He knows from first-hand experience how life could be if societies were restricted or even closed.

This is one of the primary reasons why he created his Open Society Foundations. He needed this non-profit organization to provide donations to thousands of organizations within the U.S. and abroad. These organizations typically work hard to keep traditional government and institutions in check.

Ferguson, Missouri was the focal point of the Black Lives Matter Movement. This organization is supported by George Soros’s Open Society Foundation. George Soros supported this organization because it speaks out about police brutality against the black community. The Michael Brown incident that happened Ferguson in 2014 gave Black Lives Matter national exposure. George Soros’s funding of this group helped them to capitalize on their exposure.

Ferguson became the background for the newly emerging African American political forces of the modern ear. The Black Lives Matter movement is the strongest of them all. It is not like anti-racial groups from the past. No. Black Lives Matter is not grounded in the church or grounded in diversification, globalism, empathy, restorative justice and intergenerational connections.

They do not have a centralized leadership and rely on local communities to create their own branches. This organization was started on the internet from a hashtag: #BlackLivesMatter. Since then, it has become an international sensation. However, if it wasn’t from supporters like George Soros; this movement probably would not have gotten very far.

Soros has done a lot throughout the years for various pro-liberal groups across the nation and around the globe. He has helped plenty of people and organizations to keep government and community institutions in check.

The police department is necessary but it can also be a force of injustice against minority people. Soros is not against the police but against police corruption. Therefore, he supports organizations that stand against this type of behavior. He grew up in Hungary when the Nazis had taken it over. Read more about George’s life story at biography.com

He knows what it is like to live under tyranny in a hopeless situation. Soros will never allow this type of tyranny to overtake the world. This is why he supports organizations like Black Lives Matter. This is why Ferguson was important in 2014. You can find out more about Soros in Forbes.

Betsy DeVos Stands Against All Forms Of Discrimination

Even though America can be considered one of the best countries to live in, one can’t deny that the country has a history of human rights violations and discrimination. However, presidents and the country as a whole has been fighting really hard to make the country just and fair. Among the things that they are fighting against is discrimination. Among the different types of discrimination that has gotten the most attention are racial discrimination and gender discrimination. The most recent attempt to get rid of discrimination has involved the transgender issue. There has been a bill that has made it so transgender people can go into any restroom with the gender that they identify themselves as.

Recently, President Trump has decided that he is going to overturn the bill. However a lot of people have opposed this act according to cnn.com. Among the people that have opposed this is Betsy DeVos. Betsy is someone who has a lot of compassion, especially when it comes to children. She especially has compassion on children who feel the need to change their genders. One thing she has been fighting to do is to get rid of all instances of discrimination. However, the administration that she has been called to be a part of has done something that she does not agree with.

Betsy DeVos believes in inspiring people to live healthier lives with her example. She is not comfortable with the idea of any kind of discrimination. Therefore, she is willing to stand up for those that are most vulnerable even to those that she works for. One of her main objectives is to make sure that children will get the best education possible in the best environment so that they can get good grades and advance to higher education until they get their degree.

Given Betsy’s stance on discrimination, she may still have a battle to fight. However, she is still willing to do whatever it takes to keep this country fair for people, especially children. For one thing, she understands that life is not fair. She does everything she can to make it a little more fair for people.
