In a world that is characterized by so many injustices, an organization that fights for the rights of individuals would help to ensure that political leaders and people, in general, are kept in check. It is in this spirit that an organization known as Avaaz was established back in the year 2007. The name Avaaz was derived from various Asian, Middle Eastern and European languages. It means voice, all the more reason for adopting it. Its mission is simple and straightforward. To organize residents of various countries in the attempt of ensuring that we get the world that most people want and learn more about Avaaz.
Time after another, Avaaz has empowered people from all over the world to address issues that affect them on global, regional as well as national level. Some of the issues that have significant weight such as human rights, corruption, animal rights, poverty, climate change, conflict among others are matters that Avaaz has addressed. Since the organization has a streamlined internet model, any individual’s effort is welcomed and appreciated, since when many people come together, their efforts regardless of how small they become a dominant force. Avaaz has been recognized as one of the largest online activist groups in the world and follow their Twitter.
The organization has volunteers across the six continents, who reach out to the public through the campaigns which it conducts in 17 different languages. Some of the activities that Avaaz takes part in include funding media campaigns, signing petitions, organizing offline protests among others. One thing that makes Avaaz distinct is the fact that it does not accept funding from corporations. All its funding comes from the donation that it receives from its members. It is headed by Ricken Patel, as the president. He initially worked for International Crisis Group. It is while here that he learned how to win the faith of the public in a political system that was once corrupt and Avaaz’s lacrosse camp.
